For the first time in school history, DeSales has recorded a perfect regular season in football, finishing the year at 10-0 after its victory tonight against Southern.
The 2A Colts won all three district match-ups during the season while notching six wins against schools in higher classes and one win against a lower-classed team.
The 2017 season also marked the fifth-straight year that DeSales has tallied at least 10 wins in football. Prior to this streak, the feat had only been accomplished five times total since the team's inaugural season in 1958. The previous best start to the year occurred in 1998, when the Colts rattled off eight straight wins on their way to a final record of 10-2.
The Colts competed in Class AAAA from 1976-98 before KHSAA reclassified to six divisions. Since joining 2A, DeSales has gone 155-80 and maintained a strong record against schools in higher classes. Over the last five seasons, the Colts are 21-2 against 5A and 6A teams.
Coach Harold Davis '82 continues to find success in his reprised role with the Colts team. As a senior at DeSales in 1981, Davis helped lead the team to its first-ever Jefferson County Championship and a subsequent appearance in the school's first state title game. DeSales lost in the final, but with Davis' rise to head coach in 2012 the success of the program has soared. Under Davis' watch, DeSales has captured four regional championships (2012-15) and two state titles (2013-14) in the last five years, winning an impressive 84% of its games (68-13).
The Colts will carry their unblemished record into the first round of the playoffs next Friday, November 3rd, when they will host Gallatin County at Paul B. Cox Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm.
