High School Graduation Year

2018

What did you do right after graduation? College/career/travel/military?

Right after graduation I attended Bellarmine University majoring in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology in hopes of pursuing a career in science.

Please describe DeSales in three words.

Community, Ingenuity, Camaraderie

Where are you and what are you doing now?

Currently I am a PhD Student at the University of Cincinnati in the Molecular Genetics program under Dr. Richard Lu. My research aims to understand the molecular, epigenetic, and developmental aspects of a particular type of pediatric glioma known as diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG).

What do you like most about what you are doing?

I enjoy the opportunity to explore the complexities of pediatric cancer at a molecular level and contribute to the search for new therapeutic strategies. The challenge of uncovering novel insights into this devastating disease, combined with the potential to make a real impact on patients' lives, is what drives my passion for research.

What is your favorite memory about DeSales?

My favorite memory at Desales was the senior retreat, this event strengthened many of my friendships and gave a new perspective into the lives in those around me.

The most valuable lesson I learned at DeSales was to embrace and take pride in the qualities that make me unique, recognizing them as strengths rather than differences.

What advice do you have for current (or potential) students at DeSales?

Take full advantage of every opportunity to earn college credit at DeSales—it can save you thousands of dollars and countless hours, giving you a head start on your future.

What is your favorite DeSales Event? Why?

As a former Desales football player, any home game in the new stadium has to be my favorite event.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time I love to spend time with my family, friends, and dog. Whether it be attending a sporting event, reading, or checking out a local distillery.

Do you still stay in touch with any of your DeSales friends?

I stay connected with many of my friends from DeSales, celebrating milestones together—from weddings to other major life events.

What’s next for you/where do you see yourself in five years?

In the next five years, I hope to have earned my Ph.D. and built a strong foundation of valuable publications. Ideally, I’d also like to be teaching at a smaller university, where I can inspire others to pursue science.
